ABOUT SGS KRAV MAGA
Founded in 2014, SGS Krav Maga is an award-winning self-defence school, and one of the largest Hybrid Krav-Maga (HKM) affiliated schools in Australia. Focused on realism in training and practical teaching, it is more than a place people come to learn self-defence. In 2022, SGS Krav Maga won the St. George Local Business Award for Outstanding Fitness Services.
SGS Krav Maga provides training to military and law enforcement agencies such as NSW Police and the Department of Corrections, as well as numerous corporate and non-for-profit clients such as the Asian Women’s Business Network, the University of Technology Sydney, and others.
SGS Krav Maga hosts a division dedicated to training those within the protective services industry. Many students of SGS Krav Maga are front-line emergency workers, such as police, doctors, nurses, and paramedics.
Boasting one of the largest instructor teams in the country, our instructors frequently travel around Australia to train in national events, ensuring that students get the most up-to-date training. SGS Krav Maga’s Founder and Head Instructor, Steven Kratsas, has achieved a Global Expert Level 1 and HKM Black Belt ranking, has trained internationally and interstate, and has also been invited to run workshops in Greece and Cyprus.
ABOUT OUR CORPORATE SELF-DEFENCE PROGRAMS
Our corporate self-defence training programs focus on identifying the main types of risk faced by a group of employees, and on providing them with an appropriate level of self-defence tactics and techniques. We tailor our training to realistic scenarios, and this provides realistic defensive solutions to the problems your employees are most likely to face.
Our corporate training differs from our regular training programs as our instructor team understands the variability in policies and procedures in organisations of various sizes and in various industries. We work within the framework set by your organisation and train your employees to fill in the gaps between the moment of danger and the arrival of the security team.
When the duress call is activated, what your employees do in the time it takes for help to arrive may mean the difference between safety and significant injury and/or trauma.
We design and facilitate customised training programs after a careful review of your policies and needs. We incorporate the unique needs of your organisation and employees to our programs.
Our corporate training programs will save money, mitigate risk, and save lives in the most serious of cases.
Krav Maga self-defence training for the corporate sector can be delivered in several different formats. A range of seminars and courses are available covering a range of problems, from basic self-defence and personal protection through to surviving high risk situations.
QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN CHOOSING A SELF-DEFENCE INSTRUCTOR FOR YOUR CORPORATE SELF-DEFENCE PROGRAM
When choosing a self-defence school to deliver a world-class, practical self-defence program, many corporate executives find themselves at a loss of how to compare providers. As with any product or service, the decision may come down to cost in the absence of an informed decision-making process.
Considering the pedigree and experience of the instructor team, SGS Krav Maga is not the most cost-effective option available.
While we do not compete on price, we do compete on quality. To help you make an informed choice in what may initially be a confounding process, here are a few key questions to ask of any self-defence school you are considering:
- What is the history of the system you are training your students in? How did it start, who started it, and how has it kept up with the changing demands of self-defence instruction globally?
- Tell me about your instructor qualification program. How did they get their instructors certificate? How rigorous is the process?
- What is the rank of the instructor you are providing? How long have they held that rank? Who trains them?
- What is the largest group your instructor has trained? Tell me about their experience level with self-defence and with training corporate groups.
- Tell me about your student safety record. How many students have been injured in training in the last 12 months? How common are head injuries in training?
- In the history of your school, how many students of yours have been imprisioned for assault or battery? How many have had run-ins with the police?
These questions are important and should help you better understand the track record of the school you are selecting and gauge the level and quality of the instruction your employees would be receiving.
Self-defence instruction is not a commodity. When it comes to self-defence, quality of instruction matters. The training, by definition, can mean the difference between injury and safety, life and death. It should be designed to protect the student on the worst day of their life.
The quality of our instruction is our duty of care to our students. The responsibility to teach effective techniques that work is one we take extremely seriously.
You should, too.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS OF KRAV MAGA AND SELF-DEFENCE FOR CORPORATE PROGRAMS
SGS Krav Maga teaches the world’s most effective and practical self-defence system, adapted specifically for attacks commonly encountered by key target groups such as women, students, retail and hospitality staff, and other key groups within the bounds of the rules and regulations enforced by their role and their workplace environment.
In addition to the technical and tactical training we also help students develop the right mindset to support and enhance their physical readiness to fight. This includes working to develop determination, persistence, and aggression as tools for students to use whenever the situation requires it.
In the same way that mindfulness does not come naturally to most people, aggression does not either. Learning to use and channel aggression to ensure it is available as a resource in self-defence situations forms a key part of our training syllabus.
We build our training programs around the three pillars of Krav Maga which are Defend, Fight, Protect. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Generating power in striking
- Training to target the most vulnerable parts of the body with the most efficient attacks
- Effective defences against the most common attacks encountered by certain groups
- Situational awareness and de-escalation
- Preventative attacks as effective defences

- Improve overall fitness, weight control, flexibility, and cardiovascular health
- Reduce work-related physical ailments like lower back pain, neck pain, tension, and cervical spondylosis
- Reduce stress, depression, and anxiety and improves self-confidence and self-awareness
- Build mental toughness and focus improving productivity under pressure
Physical high-contact training boosts confidence. This confidence is gained in controlled environments, which are important for safety, psychological as well as physical. SGS Krav Maga adheres to the highest safety standards in training, including addressing the psychological realities of violent encounters.
Why is this important? Because confidence is important and false confidence is dangerous. By addressing the realities of violent encounters and the limitations of certain techniques, we ensure all students gain well-founded confidence and a realistic understanding of their capabilities and an ability to adapt to changing and often difficult situations and environments.
It is important to note that a one-off self-defense workshop is not a substitute for professional training and it is not a guarantee of safety in any situation. It is a means of providing basic knowledge and tools that may help in a dangerous situation but should be intended as an introduction, not a solution. Self-defence skills require consistent and regular training to be most effective.
