WHO ARE SGS KRAV MAGA
Located in Sydney, Hurstville region, SGS KRAV MAGA (St George Sutherland Shire Krav Maga) has been founded to offer a sound self-defence and tactics system that is both internationally recognised and respected.
SGS Krav Maga provides practical and reality-based self defence lessons based on the curriculum endorsed by the leading Global organisation of Krav Maga, Krav Maga Global.
SGS Krav Maga operates classes catering to adults seven days per week, catering to students as young as 4 years old right through to senior adults. Each class is adapted to suit a variety of physical capabilities to ensure all participants receive an interactive lesson and an understanding of Krav Maga.
SGS Krav Maga also provides a tailored self-defence program for primary and secondary schools in the local area as part of the sport and physical education curriculum which also compliments the NSW Department of Education’s compulsory Child Protection Unit. This program has been quite successful in limiting bullying within schools.
SGS Krav Maga also provides training to Military and law enforcement agencies such as NSW Police, the Department of Corrections. SGS Krav Maga also has a catered division training those within the security industry. Many students within SGS Krav Maga are frontline emergency workers, such as doctors, nurses and paramedics. SGS Krav Maga also offers corporate training to small and large businesses.
SGS Krav Maga regularly gives back to the community holding two womens self-defence workshops per year at no cost to the attendees. SGS Krav Maga is passionate about spreading good, reality based self-defence and being a positive member of the local community, this was reflected during COVID -19 lockdowns when SGS Krav Maga offered members to voluntarily pay for their membership, while SGS Krav Maga produced daily video content for each division of the school (adult, kids, womens and teens).
Our instructor team (all KMG qualified) is one of the largest instructor teams. Our instructors all frequently travel around Australia to train in KMG national events, ensuring that our students are getting the best and most up to date training. SGS Krav Maga head instructor ranked Expert level 1, has trained internationally and interstate, and has also held multiple workshops within KMG Greece and KMG Cyprus.

SGS Krav Maga teaches an effective, real-life based self defence system with a strong focus on safety in training. The instructors observe for and deal with inappropriate behaviour or aggression on the mat. In addition the gym caters for women in their women’s only lessons, with a focus on self defense and workshopping techniques against much larger attackers. Classes are on nearly every day of the week with flexible payment options – cheap when you consider how highly trained all the instructors are! If you’re looking for real Krav Maga this is the school for you.
Steve and the team at SGS are a great bunch of people and made my wife and I feel very comfortable.
Every lesson made us feel safer and safer I was really impressed in the schools teaching methods.
SGS Krav Maga is an experience unlike any other, it keeps you fit, teaches you (unlike other martial arts) real defensive techniques that work with absolutely everything !! And personally from me, without the training I’ve been taught at SGS Krav Maga I wouldn’t be the man I am today.
Starting is really simple.
All you need to do is to attend one of our sessions in our schedule for you to participate.
In this class one of our fully qualified KMG Instructors will take you through the basic fundamentals of what Krav Maga is all about. Essentially a private session held separately to the main class.
Your first lesson is free of charge, this gives you an opportunity to determine whether Krav Maga is right for you.
If you decide to join you can then choose which payment plan suits you best for your class fees.
Yes. Women train in Krav Maga worldwide and are most welcome in any of our classes. However it is important that they note that some of the classes can be quite physical and have some confrontation and drills which may involve grabbing and lifting. Be assured that we take a strong stance against ANY form of sexual harassment.
Generally, the specific motivation for women to learn self defence is the capability to defend themselves against attack by a male. This can only really be achieved by having a male simulate an attack. Anyone can opt out of part of training at any time – no questions asked (other than to ensure you are OK).
By nature, training in self defence or martial arts always bears a risk of injury.
Students are required to acquire a mouth guard and groin guard as a minimum for training. These, along with other safety equipment, are available for order through the school. Safety of the student is a key concern of the system.
Students find that training a minimum of two nights a week generally yields the best results for retaining knowledge and adequate rest time.
You are still free to train as many times as you like during the week.
No! We do not expect any of our students to have a high degree of physical fitness. We scale the intensity of the classes up or down depending on the level of fitness our students have.
It certainly does help if you do have some degree of fitness as some of the drills can be quite physically demanding, but don’t be discouraged. We’re here to train self defence first. The physical fitness that you WILL achieve is mainly a by product.
Students can wear the Krav Maga uniform (black pants with Krav Maga T-shirt). Please note that black t-shirts should not be worn. You are free to train in other (suitable) attire if you feel the need. A quarantined pair of suitable shoes for the mats should be worn (wrestling shoes are ideal) however Nike free-runs or equivalent are also suitable.
Note that, as this is a street defence system, there will be occasions when alternate forms of dress will be required, e.g. wearing jackets or overcoats so students become accustomed to training in attire worn in winter. The instructor will advise this prior to the time required.
There will be some light contact, (which we call marking) but not for new students.
This ensures that they are not intimidated and protects the safety of others, as new students may not yet possess good control.
We try to strike a balance between realism and safety..
