COMBAT PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT
FOR PROFESSIONAL MMA FIGHTERS
Knowing how hard an MMA fighter can strike is important for several reasons…
Knockout potential
In MMA, knockouts can occur due to strikes such as punches, kicks, knees, and elbows.
Understanding one’s striking power helps an MMA fighter gauge their ability to deliver fight-ending blows.
Knowing their knockout potential, they can strategically aim for vulnerable areas and capitalize on their striking skills to secure a victory.
EFFECTIVE STRIKING COMBINATIONS
MMA fighters need to know their striking power to optimize their striking combinations.
By understanding their capabilities, they can determine the appropriate amount of power to generate in each strike and effectively chain them together.
This allows them to create fluid combinations that can overwhelm their opponents and open up opportunities for finishes or take-downs.
DEFENCES & COUNTERS
Knowing one’s striking power is crucial for effective defense and counterattacking.
It helps MMA fighters anticipate the impact of their opponent’s strikes and adjust their defensive maneuvers accordingly.
Additionally, understanding their power allows them to gauge the risks associated with counterattacking and make calculated decisions based on their striking abilities.
BETTER TECHNIQUES
Training and technique refinement: Awareness of striking power allows MMA fighters to tailor their training to improve their striking skills.
They can focus on techniques, strength training, and conditioning exercises that enhance power generation and striking efficiency.
By understanding their striking capabilities, they can refine their technique and develop the necessary attributes to deliver impactful strikes during fights.
CONFIDENCE & MENTAL ADVANTAGE
Similar to kickboxing, knowing their striking power in MMA boost a fighter’s confidence and provides them with a mental advantage.
Believing in their ability to deliver powerful strikes can positively impact their mindset, decision-making, and overall performance in the cage.
It can also influence the opponent’s mindset, creating doubt and hesitation.

What is the PowerKube Combat Performance Training center?
Researched and developed in consultation with sports scientists, professional athletes, and martial artists, the PowerKubeCombat Performance Training Center is the only system in the world that accurately measures and analyses striking performance, speed, and fighting endurance for fighters of combat sports.
The PowerKube itself is a tactile striking pad that incorporates controlled compression technology (CCT), which controls the compression of the pad up to 12cm, making it ideal for measuring all types of strikes, from a light strike to the hardest strike a combat athlete can throw.
Every type of upper and lower-body strike, from hooks, crosses, jabs, elbows, and uppercuts to roud-house kicks, side-kicks, push kicks and knees are programmed into the system.
Built into the tactile pad is an impact analysis technology that provides instant feedback on performance. Combined with custom-built, intuitive touchscreen interface, it allows athletes to get feedback in real time about their striking speed and power.
Using the precision data captured by the PowerKube athletes and coaches can measure and track every element of a striking technique and athletic combat performance.
3 KEY STRIKING PERFORMANCE INDICATORS FOR POWER
IMPACT POWER
The PowerKube measures the peak power generated at the point of strike impact. Measurements are shown in Watts (W). This is the initial impact measurement, which is related to the speed of the strike. Like a shock, it lasts fractions of a second.
KINETIC ENERGY
Human Force
All strikes are comprised of both power and energy but in varying amounts. The Franklin (f) is a metric developed based on an algorithm that combines both the power and energy of a strike to reflect its combined destructive power.
A strike with high Kinetic Energy and Lower Impact Power can have the same Human Force measurement as a strike with low Kinetic Energy and high Impact Power.
MEASURING STRIKING SPEED
The PowerKube Combat Performance Center can measure the reaction time in seconds. The feedback is instant. The PowerKube gives the athlete a visual and audible trigger and captures the Human Force, Impact Power to generate a speed index. In combat sports, an athlete’s ability to respond quickly and powerfully to stimulus is key to successful performance. There is no other technology that measures this accurately.
The PowerKube Speed Index is a measurement that reflects the reaction time and technical striking ability. Reducing the reaction time to stimulus in a combat situation is key to taking advantage of openings in the guard of an opponent and to counterstrikes effectively.
COMBAT ATHLETE PROFILING
Created by measuring performance in multiple techniques across the three power performance indicators, speed, and endurance. This allows athletes and coaches to monitor athletic ability over time.
A CAP Rating is generated for each user, which considers the athlete’s weight and fighting style, to create a rating for each of the KPIs, the sum of which is used to rate fighters based on a calculated Combat Athlete Performance (CAP) rating.

At SGS Krav Maga in Sydney, self-defence training isn’t just about punches, drills, and sweat. It’s about mindset, identity, consistency, and growth. Over time, I’ve distilled my personal training philosophy into a set of principles — all beginning with the letter P. These aren’t motivational clichés. They’re practical mental tools...
Sorry not sorry. Bodybuilding is not self-defence. Confusing the two can get you hurt. Let’s say it loud for the guys flexing in the mirror right now: Having a big chest, 20-inch arms, and visible abs does NOT make you good at self-defence.In fact, it can sometimes make things worse....
In a world where confrontations arise unexpectedly, many people cling to hope that staying passive will decrease aggression. They think: “If I just stay calm and don’t fight back, the threat will pass.” “Maybe if I just don’t hit him and I just stay here nicely, he won’t hit me.”...

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is widely celebrated for its effective grappling techniques, leverage, and control in controlled environments. However, the harsh reality of street violence often introduces dangerous variables such as multiple attackers, weapons, and unpredictable tactics—including biting. The following real-world examples involving highly skilled BJJ black belts tragically illustrate how...

Modern children face unique challenges: they’re easily triggered, glued to screens, and often reluctant to move their bodies, which has lead to up to 25 per cent of children in Australia being either overweight or obese. This trend has seeped into self-defence classes, where kids drop out prematurely and miss out...
